Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan!

Paints, Brushes & Waxes

  • Paints - Chalk Paint® is a decorative furniture paint developed by Annie Sloan over 25 years ago. It very rarely requires any preparation, such as sanding or priming, and can be used indoors or outside, on just about any surface. It can revitalise old furniture, walls, ceilings and floors with ease. It's easy, fun and makes amazing results accessible to everyone.

With a colour palette inspired by 18th and 20th Century decor and design, you

can easily mix the colours together to extend the range. Add a little water to it

to make it smooth, thicken it up by leaving the lid off, make it into a wash by

adding even more water. Use Annie Sloan Flat Brushes for a smooth look or her

Chalk Paint® Brushes for a more textured aged look. Apply Chalk Paint® Wax to

protect your finish and add durability.

“There’s no need for tiresome priming and sanding – you can get straight to the fun bit!”

 – Annie Sloan

About Annie Sloan

image28

As well as authoring 26 internationally sold books, Annie Sloan transformed the world of furniture paint with the creation of her own brand of decorative paint, Chalk Paint®, in 1990. Annie’s fine-art background and contagious enthusiasm for decorative painting has motivated both home painters and experienced professionals, unlocking countless creative potentials over the last 30 years.  Annie Sloan is all about sharing her passion for decorative painting, and inspiring people to be creative and adventurous with her paints and colours. Her products are exclusively available through her network of over 1,700 independent Stockists located in 55 countries around the world.

Annie's Background

Annie trained as a fine artist and turned to decorative work after university in the mid 1970s, whilst painting murals in houses as commissions. By 1987, Annie had written the phenomenally successful book The Complete Book of Decorative Paint Techniques, which is considered to be the industry bible on the subject. Unable to find the paints that she wished to work with, Annie used her knowledge of colour, paint, pigments and art history to develop Chalk Paint® in 1990. In 2000, Annie set up a shop in Oxford to showcase Chalk Paint®, run courses, and offer interior design services.

Our Values

Annie Sloan the company takes its ethical cues from Annie Sloan the individual. Our values can be split into three columns of belief; firstly, Annie Sloan believes in supporting independent businesses. Secondly, Annie Sloan believes in caring for our community of staff, Stockists and customers. Finally, Annie Sloan believes in being conscious of the environment and of our impact on it.

Our Paints

Chalk Paint® is the brand name for Annie’s unique water-based decorative paint. It is a non-toxic and virtually odour-free paint that has minimal volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at 0.02g/l VOC (EU limit value for this product (cat. a): 30g/l (2010)). Developed by Annie Sloan specifically for furniture, it can be applied to most surfaces and very rarely requires any priming or sanding before painting. You can use it on walls, floors, wood, concrete, metal, matt plastic, earthenware, brick, stone and more – inside or outside. You can even use it to paint upholstery and dye fabric.

Recycle, Re-Use, Re-Imagine

Annie Sloan is about creativity, which encompasses recycling and upcycling. We love the challenge of re-using, re-imagining and breathing new life into old, unloved but not obsolete objects with our products.

When it comes to your own projects, try to buy only as much paint as you need. Remember, a little Chalk Paint® goes a long way (1 litre is enough to cover approximately 13 square metres)! Use any left-over paint that you have on smaller projects, rather than disposing of it. Give old paint to a friend, or share and mix new colours. Why not re-vamp an old paint tin and turn it into something new? Here at Annie Sloan HQ we have repurposed paint tins as storage pots for our paint brushes, as plant pots and as everything else in between!
